Blue Monday: Busy Bee

Blue Monday: Busy Bee

The gardens are all just heavenly for bees at the moment! In a few days time Simon and I will be on Kos, one of the beautiful Greek Islands. I’m really looking forward to a bit of Kos Thyme Honey on fresh bread for my breakfasts πŸ™‚ Thyme flourishes all over the island which is also dotted with clusters of Greek-blue beehives! Driving along the roads of Kos with the windows down is a wonderfully fragranced journey πŸ™‚

    • If you wait for a hot sunny day and leave the photos til later in the afternoon you’ll find that many of the bees have started getting sleepy and a bit drunk on nectar! They keep a bit more still then. I find using a longer zoom better than getting too close with my little macro. Even with a sleepy bee you’ll still need a high shutter speed to compensate for movement of the flower/plant that the bee is on. Some photographers who specialise in insect photos use flash to really highlight all the detail and get rid of shadows.

  1. I have seen many pictures of bees going about their work, however I believe this one is quite special πŸ™‚

  2. Hello Sarah,

Sweet. Mmm, enjoy your trip, and take lots of blue pictures to share with us. Thanks for playing today.

    Happy Blue Monday!

  3. Have a lovely but safe journey. It sounds so relaxing. Ah…..enjoy and you can share more lovely photos with us. I am a lover of bees. They are so vital to us. I love honey and they do a great job making it for me! Enjoy!

  4. You’re on a roll Sarah. Another beautiful image. Great shallow DoF, which allows the blue on blue to work. Then you have the contrast of colour with the bumble bee 😊

  5. Have the best time away Sarah πŸ™‚
This is gorgeous and your bees are so fluffy…and adorable.
Ours are cute too, but not so fluffy.
    Very nice capture πŸ™‚

      • No apologies necessary Sarah πŸ™‚ Go, enjoy!
Ah Bumble Bees. They’re beautiful! I’ve never seen them in my garden, but they must reside somewhere in Aus.
        Have fun πŸ™‚
