Blue Monday: Twilight Supermoon

As the sun set yesterday, the supermoon rose over the ruins of Newark Priory. I had to wait for the moon to clear the low cloud and for a while I did worry if I’d actually get a photo at all!

I want to dedicate this one to my parents, who’s Wedding Anniversary is today! Much love to you both and I hope you enjoyed watching the supermoon rise over the hills in Devon last night πŸ™‚

I just love the deep blue tones in a twilight sky! They often call it “the magic hour” and I certainly spent a magical hour watching the moon rise as the skies darkened last night.

    • Thanks Robin πŸ™‚ I love the Priory! Sadly there’s no public access so all my photos of it are from the roadside and the view is often dictated by the hedge height and roadside plant growth. I’ve wanted to shoot it at a simultaneous sunset and moonrise for a while now! My next set will have to be dawn and sunrise I think πŸ™‚

    • Thanks Sally πŸ™‚ I have another post about a Blue Moon, which despite the name isn’t blue! It’s all to do with the phenomenon of two full moons in one calender month. I love seeing the moon at all different times of day and night and with various atmospheric conditions. Watching the moon is better that most TV these days πŸ˜‰

  1. Terrific photos of the Supermoon and wonderful wishes to your parents. A nice anniversary gift, such a beautiful shining light. Happy Blue Monday. Enjoy the week.

  2. I’ve recently discovered the ‘blue hour’ – it’s a very interesting time to photograph isn’t it. It seems to lend itself to architecture shots as observed in your photo Sarah.

    • It is a lovely time for atmospheric pictures! Most photographers enjoy the early magic hour, just before sunrise, for landscape photography and I’d so love to do more of it myself except that I just don’t do mornings very well 😦

    • Thanks Seonaid πŸ™‚ The second one is the most heavily processed and I know some people don’t like that in photography but this is photographic art πŸ˜‰ There’s a real fairytale magic to the whole site where the old priory stands! I just love it there.

  3. Wonderful photos Sarah! I’m really wanting to get out and shoot but haven’t been able to for that last couple of weeks. My camera hasn’t even made it out of the bag for the last couple weeks. Such a sad thought. I’m hoping to make it to a beach to recon for a sunrise photo that hopefully will be coming within the next month though! πŸ™‚

    • Happens sometimes Justin!! It’s very frustrating when you can’t get out and create. I have chronic fatigue related to my Crohn’s and Fibromyalgia so I’m very often stuck at home, unable to photograph or process. A good, rocky beach is perfect for sunrise but also for moonrise or set! Have fun with it πŸ™‚
