Blue Morpho

Weekly Photo Challenge and Travel Theme: Scale and Details (3 Galleries)

There are two definitions of the word Scale that I am representing within my galleries today.

The first is to do with proportion and representation:
Scale:
Noun
The ratio between the size of something real and that of a model or representation of it.

The second is what you will find in the close-up Details:
In Zoology.
a) one of the thin, flat, horny plates forming the covering of certain animals, as snakes, lizards, and pangolins.
b) one of the hard, bony or dentinal plates, either flat or denticulate, forming the covering of certain other animals, as fishes.

  1. Closeups of butterfly and moth wings are so fascinating. They are so different in macro. I took a photo of a moth in macro once, and the edge of its wings look like the fringe of an antique lampshade. Beautiful Sarah.

  2. Amazing photos Sarah! The butterfly shots are just so beautiful and I don’t think they are easy captures! I just love the picture of the girl taking the photo. You can’t help but wonder if she is a budding photographer in the making. πŸ™‚

    • I love seeing so many children using cameras around the gardens now! The butterfly event is bringing out the budding photographer in just about every one πŸ™‚ The little girl was priceless, she was absolutely determined to get exactly the picture she wanted! Thanks Katie πŸ™‚

  3. Looking at the pictures at the bottom of your gallery, you can almost see feathers there. Butterflies and birds are probably not that dissimilar in their anatomy. The Blue Morpho is my all-time favorite butterfly. I’ve only been able to see it in a butterfly exhibit here in the US and during a visit to Costa Rica.

    • I would just love to see them in the wild!! These are all taken at an exhibit at Wisley Gardens. Complete butterfly heaven for me πŸ™‚ Both birds and butterflies are a passion of mine. Such complex and beautiful designs of nature and evolution! I love seeing the details πŸ™‚ Thank you!
