One Four Challenge: March Week 4
I’ve gone all nostalgic for the last installment of this month’s One Four Challenge, hosted by Robyn Gosby at Captivate Me. Dartmoor brings back many happy childhood memories for me, of climbing the tors and seeing the gorgeous Dartmoor Ponies. My mother’s family come from Devon and she, herself, grew up on the edge of the moors. There’s a real sense of peace and tranquility that comes from being out in one of the UK’s great wildernesses. The montage that I’ve created is a romanticised imagining of an early, plate photograph that, perhaps, I might have found in an old trunk or at the bottom of a desk drawer in an ancestor’s home. You’ll find a gallery of all my edits after the list of processes, and a poll if you would like to choose a favourite! As April is our review month, please do let me know if there’s a One Four image of mine that you think could do with a rework and what suggestions you have for me. Thanks all 🙂

Stunning. I can only imagine the time and effort gone into producing this one Sarah. You are only very talented and special lady 🙂
Bless you Jude! Thank you so much 🙂 Labours of love is how I think of these. I get so much satisfaction out of creating these pieces!
Truly amazing transformation!
Thank you so much 🙂
very imaginative Sarah and good work. I like the pastoral foreground! However, my nature is still inclined to the apocalypse lol!!
Thanks Cybele 🙂 Yeah, the “apocalypse” was a bit of triumph for me. Something I’d never attempted before and I really love the surreal quality of it. I’d always planned to do a vintage style piece and put the ponies where I wish they’d been on the day 😉 It took a while though!
Brilliant 🙂
What an amazing and very involved transformation! Great work Sarah. My vote went for week 2 though. I just love the B&W.
I still really like week three, the colours and emotion I feel trump the others.
Thanks Ben 🙂 I really got a lot out of putting that edit together!! Life is a constant and exciting learning experience 😀
So good Sarah .. Love it 🙂
Thanks Julie 🙂 It was a lovely edit to bring together!
There is no two ways about it Sarah, you are very talented and creative. John 🍀
Bless you John!! It’s good to be challenging myself again 🙂 For me, this is as close as I get now to picking up my oils and brushes. This feels like creating a painting to me. I’ve had no time to make proper pit stops at everyone’s edits this week (I will eventually!) but I’ve seen your montage in Reader and I absolutely love it!!! Really well balanced and great story telling too 🙂
Exactly, you are an artist. Enjoy your weekend, 😎
Thanks John!! I fully intend to enjoy the weekend, it’s my birthday and they say life begins at 40 😉 You have a good one too!
Happy, happy birthday Sarah. A lot going on this year. 🍸
Thanks John 🙂 Yeah, thought I’d do it in style! It’s going to be a great year 😀
Happy Belated Birthday wishes!! 😃😃
Ooh, thanks Robyn 🙂 Had a wicked time 😀
Lol… Thats great!!
<:o)
Just for the imagination and work that went into it, I have to pick week 4. Just beautiful work each week but week 4 is it, for me.
Thanks Emilio 🙂 I really love crafting these pieces! They bring me a lot of joy and it’s added pleasure being able to share my imaginings 😀
I do love this last image. Cool work. The sepia tone really works with this image.
Thanks Raewyn 🙂 Nostalgia always works best in sepia I think and the landscape of the moors is ideally suited to monochrome images. It’s also much, much easier to create a complex montage in monochrome! Balancing contrast, shadow and light is tricky enough but full colour is a massive challenge.
Crikey, what devotion to your art! I just do not have the patience, stamina or eyesight to manage something like this – marvellous! That said, I still love your Apocalypse edit!
Thanks Sue 🙂 I think that one is going to forever called Apocalypse? from now on! Like I said to you, I really feel like I’m painting on a canvas with these montages. I don’t do the whole thing in one go!! Many breaks are taken, quite a few of those at the coffee shop 😉
Ah, that sounds encouraging, Sarah….not doing it all in one hit. I shall look forward to my tutorials!!
You’re going to love it! There’s so much scope to the programs. Lots of flexibility whether you want to keep things simple or go all out 🙂
😀
The sepia is a perfect tone and a lovely job. I think I would like it more if there were less birds – it maybe only needs one or two plus the ponies – there is too much going on otherwise and Im too distracted. Plus I like ponies 🙂
Thank you 🙂 I did wonder if I’d overdone it! One for the review month I think. Got to love the ponies 😀
Its really a personal thing re the amt of birds and no real wrong or right choice there 🙂
Art is always a personal thing, but this time I think you’re right!!
I love the delicate treatment of Week 4. They are all beautiful but this one really spoke to me. 🙂
Thanks Laura 🙂 That’s lovely to hear! It’s what art is all about, connecting with the viewer on an emotional level.
Yes!
😀
I love this week’s edit! It reminds me of the pictures you find on information boards at historical sites, showing what life would have been like way back when… 🙂 It’s definitely my favourite, though they’ve all been great.
Thank you so much 🙂 Yes, that’s exactly the sort of look I was going for! The history of Britain’s ancient sites fascinates me 🙂
What a great collection, they are all so beautiful.
Thanks to much 🙂 It’s such a joy to get out in the gardens with all the colour and scents!
Really love what you’ve done here; beautiful 🙂
Thanks so much Lisa 🙂
Yes its been a fabulous month again Sarah! Apologies for my late reply. April has been a busy one for me.
I love this!!! The vintage edition with Noah’s ark added is wonderful. Aged but filled with life.
You do amaze me with your wonderful creative ideas. Inspired!!
Wishing you and Simon all the very best for this next month. Hope you are organised and all is going as it should.. and I do hope your special day is a very happy occasion xox Hugs!
Lol 😉 Thanks Robyn! I really had fun with it 🙂
Yes, very busy at wedding central too!! Most things are all sorted out now but my bridesmaids are making a drama out of a simple task of getting a dress suitable for Greece with colours based on Greek Blue, bougainvillea, white, thyme or a mixture of them. Pretty broad choice I thought but they’re all being complete divas, except for my sister! It’s supposed to be a really laid back wedding but you’d think we were getting hitched in a 5 star mansion house the way they’re behaving 😉 I’ve decided that if they haven’t sorted themselves out by the time Simon and I fly out there I will tell them to wear one of the dresses I’ve suggested or not be a bridesmaid.
I can’t wait to get out there though 😀 Four weeks to go!!!! I will have to give one four a miss for May and probably the first week of June but hopefully I’ll have some nice stuff from Greece to play with when we get back 🙂
Oh this all sounds wonderful, except for the Divas 😜 👠 👗
Your choices sound lovely and your wedding is far more important than any old challenge..lol
Have a wonderful time and we’ll see you in June or after for the challenge. ❤️
Lovely to hear from you Sarah. Its turned out to be a busy month here too. I thought it might be. Hugs xx
Ha ha 😉 I doubt I’ll stay off WordPress altogether though! Far too many lovely things in Kos to share 😀 Hope all your busy is good busy! Hugs to you too hun xx
