One Four Challenge: March Week 4

One Four Challenge: March Week 4

One Four Challenge: March Week 4

I’ve gone all nostalgic for the last installment of this month’s One Four Challenge, hosted by Robyn Gosby at Captivate Me. Dartmoor brings back many happy childhood memories for me, of climbing the tors and seeing the gorgeous Dartmoor Ponies. My mother’s family come from Devon and she, herself, grew up on the edge of the moors. There’s a real sense of peace and tranquility that comes from being out in one of the UK’s great wildernesses. The montage that I’ve created is a romanticised imagining of an early, plate photograph that, perhaps, I might have found in an old trunk or at the bottom of a desk drawer in an ancestor’s home. You’ll find a gallery of all my edits after the list of processes, and a poll if you would like to choose a favourite! As April is our review month, please do let me know if there’s a One Four image of mine that you think could do with a rework and what suggestions you have for me. Thanks all 🙂

    • Thanks Cybele 🙂 Yeah, the “apocalypse” was a bit of triumph for me. Something I’d never attempted before and I really love the surreal quality of it. I’d always planned to do a vintage style piece and put the ponies where I wish they’d been on the day 😉 It took a while though!

  1. Just for the imagination and work that went into it, I have to pick week 4. Just beautiful work each week but week 4 is it, for me.

    • Thanks Raewyn 🙂 Nostalgia always works best in sepia I think and the landscape of the moors is ideally suited to monochrome images. It’s also much, much easier to create a complex montage in monochrome! Balancing contrast, shadow and light is tricky enough but full colour is a massive challenge.

  2. Crikey, what devotion to your art! I just do not have the patience, stamina or eyesight to manage something like this – marvellous! That said, I still love your Apocalypse edit!

  3. The sepia is a perfect tone and a lovely job. I think I would like it more if there were less birds – it maybe only needs one or two plus the ponies – there is too much going on otherwise and Im too distracted. Plus I like ponies 🙂

  4. I love this week’s edit! It reminds me of the pictures you find on information boards at historical sites, showing what life would have been like way back when… 🙂 It’s definitely my favourite, though they’ve all been great.

  5. Yes its been a fabulous month again Sarah! Apologies for my late reply. April has been a busy one for me.
I love this!!! The vintage edition with Noah’s ark added is wonderful. Aged but filled with life.
You do amaze me with your wonderful creative ideas. Inspired!!
Wishing you and Simon all the very best for this next month. Hope you are organised and all is going as it should.. and I do hope your special day is a very happy occasion xox Hugs!

    • Lol 😉 Thanks Robyn! I really had fun with it 🙂

Yes, very busy at wedding central too!! Most things are all sorted out now but my bridesmaids are making a drama out of a simple task of getting a dress suitable for Greece with colours based on Greek Blue, bougainvillea, white, thyme or a mixture of them. Pretty broad choice I thought but they’re all being complete divas, except for my sister! It’s supposed to be a really laid back wedding but you’d think we were getting hitched in a 5 star mansion house the way they’re behaving 😉 I’ve decided that if they haven’t sorted themselves out by the time Simon and I fly out there I will tell them to wear one of the dresses I’ve suggested or not be a bridesmaid.

I can’t wait to get out there though 😀 Four weeks to go!!!! I will have to give one four a miss for May and probably the first week of June but hopefully I’ll have some nice stuff from Greece to play with when we get back 🙂

      • Oh this all sounds wonderful, except for the Divas 😜 👠 👗
Your choices sound lovely and your wedding is far more important than any old challenge..lol
Have a wonderful time and we’ll see you in June or after for the challenge. ❤️
Lovely to hear from you Sarah. Its turned out to be a busy month here too. I thought it might be. Hugs xx
