ShareMondays2018: On A Slate Grey Day

Pied Wagtail on a slate rooftop

ShareMondays2018: On A Slate Grey Day

Sunday was a grey old day! The views from Box Hill were muted and hazy. It tried to rain on us! Still, there’s good coffee and cheese scones at the cafe to accompany the delightful song of this lovely little pied wagtail, perched on the cafe roof. I really loved the tones of green and gold in the background, the moss and lichen topping the slate roof. The box trees are about to flower, catkins and buds adorn the branches just about everywhere you look. Even without the sun it was starting to feel a lot more Spring-like! This sight and sound was a highlight of the week for me so I’m posting it for all three challenges today, Wex Mondays, ShareMondays and fsprintmonday from Fotospeed.

ShareMondays 2018: Sheltered

I couldn’t resist a few snow-themed photos from yesterday for my posts this week! I just loved this robin, perched under the boughs of one the conifers on the lawn at RHS Wisley Gardens, sheltering from the chill wind. I thought he’d be a nice piece for today’s ShareMondays post.

I also want to say sorry to many of my followers who’ve been leaving me lots of lovely comments and not receiving replies! I usually do most of my social media chat and notifications on my phone but it’s playing up at the moment. I need to upgrade it but have been patiently waiting for the latest Sony Xperia to be released! Until then (fingers crossed in the next week or so) I am still putting up with a phone that crashes when the battery drops to around seventy percent. Normal service, and responses, should resume shortly. I hope you’ll continue to be patient with me!

Heavenly Music

Logicaltramp at the Farncombe Music Club

Heavenly Music

On Saturday evening, while the snow was falling outside, we were inside St John’s Church, venue for The Farncombe Music Club, listening to the heavenly sounds of Logicaltramp, a tribute to the mighty Supertramp. The wonderfully atmospheric lighting to accompany the music created a vibrant backdrop on the white walls. The whole ambience of the evening was a real tonic! The spirit of Supertramp was most definitely alive and had quite a few of us dancing in the aisles.

High Key Croci

Multiple Exposure High Key Croci

High Key Croci

Let’s start the Monday posts with a bright and cheerful floral image! It is Spring, really. The croci on the conifer lawn at RHS Wisley Gardens were glorious in the spring sunshine last week. Even in the snow on Sunday they were still popping with colour against the white blanket! I created this high-key image with an in-camera double exposure, zooming in on my subjects for the second exposure to accentuate the shaping of the flowers. It’s an image that makes me smile so I think it’s a good candidate for this week’s Wex Monday’s challenge.

ShareMondays 2018: Spring Has Sprung

ShareMondays 2018: Spring Has Sprung

A complete change of seasons in less than a week! The previous Friday, RHS Wisley Gardens was blanketed in snow as Storm Emma blew through. They even had to close early as paths became dangerously icy! On Wednesday last week the gardens were full of glorious colour. The croci have survived the storms and snow providing a beautiful patchwork of purples across the conifer lawn. I’m sharing this as part of Share Mondays 2018, a hashtag on Twitter that is used by photographers to share a moment from the past week. Each week a winner is chosen by the previous week’s winner. It’s a great way to connect with other photographers and get a snapshot of what’s been happening around the country and beyond.

Blue skies over London as seen from the twenty-first floor of Guy’s Hospital Tower. When you’re having a complex dental appointment with the restoratative care team, a view like this is a great tonic!
