Last week’s weather was pretty wild but we didn’t get any snow down here. Just rain, sleet, hail and thunder! Friday was much more settled and I managed to get out to RHS Wisley Gardens for a while. These snowflakes in the Cottage Garden looked so soft and sweet, I couldn’t resist them!

This is what happens when your brain is bursting with Open University STM Access Course study material and your one day off is at your grandson’s 8th Birthday Party! I see science everywhere. In this case, balloons filled with glitter and a disco light.

Am I going slightly mad?

Weird Science

Anyway, I shall wish our wonderful Callum a very HAPPY 8TH BIRTHDAY again! He and all the other children were just as fascinated by the patterns they could make in these balloons as I was. It was a great party!

I finally got round to photographing fireworks properly last night! This is from a local display held at Imber Court. I took a while to work out the location I felt best to view the display’s large fireworks at a bit of distance. A nearby recreation grounds proved to be perfect. I think I need a different lens for future shoots, something in between my two Fujinon lenses. I was pretty pleased with some of the results though! My lead image is a double exposure at ISO200 for 5 seconds. There’s movement with some crisp detail and nice black skies. My second image was very experimental so I would love to hear your thoughts. It was exposed for 20 seconds to get multiple bursts and maximum movement but the skies weren’t as black as I would have liked! Next time I may have to remember, remember a filter or two 😉

The City Gardens in the ruins of St Dunstan-in-the-East are a haven for the people of the city in the midst of all the hustle and bustle. This tranquil space with it’s many trees and shrubs is also home to many birds and small mammals. Sitting by the fountain, listening to sound of the wind rustling the leaves, birds singing and feeding in the flower beds, almost hidden under the ferns, you really do feel transported away to another, quieter, time.
