Travel Theme: Arches

This week I’ve chosen some images from my phone that I took in Kos and Rhodes, Greece. Some have been processed and others are just as they were taken. Arches are synonymous with Greek architecture so I wanted to show you a variety of monuments with interesting arches.

Travel Theme: Inviting

The warm Mediterranean Sea is one of the most inviting things I know! I remember childhood holidays in Malta, swimming, exploring rock-pools and the delightful boat trips through the Blue Lagoon. The Greek Islands remind me of those holidays and I can never wait to get into the sea! This year we went to Rhodes after spending time in Kos. Simon had spent his childhood holidays here and these photos are of Saint Paul’s Bay next to the historic town of Lindos.

You can just see the Acropolis and Temple of Athena in the background. When Simon was there as a child there was no beach area on the far side and the main beach was much less built up without a proper pathway or the car park! It’s still very picturesque and thoroughly inviting. We also took a boat from nearby Pefkos around to the old town of Lindos and I made this video with my phone. Hope you like it!

Blue Monday: Macaw

Blue Monday: Macaw

We came across this Blue and Gold Macaw, along with a number of other parrots, in a large, shaded square in the centre of Rhodes Old Town. Now, I’m always a bit uncertain about the use of such intelligent, long-lived and sensitive birds within the tourist trade but this group did seem to be pretty healthy and well cared for. They weren’t being mobbed by tourists nor were neither handlers pushing them at people. What’s your view on this practice and have you ever paid to have your photo taken with an exotic animal whilst on holiday?
