Seasons Greetings Gallery

I’ve been a bit quiet on here lately. One of the many reasons for my absence has been the creation of this gallery to send to all my family, friends, blogging buddies and followers, Seasons Greetings and Best Wishes for 2017! I just love the lighting display at RHS Wisley Gardens for Christmas!

This year they have outdone themselves with the beautiful floral light-sculptures, floodlit trees and the eerily-outlandish Glasshouse After Dark. Cacti and succulents are often quite alien in appearance but lit with neon-green, blue and red lights they really did become completely otherworldly and I LOVED it 🙂

So, Happy Holidays wherever you are in the world, and however you celebrate this special time of year! I’ll speak to you all in the New Year 🙂

Weekly Photo and Travel Theme Challenges: Fresh Spring Flowers

Early Spring at RHS Wisley Gardens

Weekly Photo and Travel Theme Challenges: Fresh Spring Flowers

I spent a lovely afternoon at RHS Wisley Gardens on Wednesday to capture these fresh, early Spring flowers. The two challenges this week were perfect to link together for this! I also spotted lots of wonderful birds which I will share with you all soon. For now though, I have also made a short video on my Sony phone whilst wheeling around the gardens! Watch out for my friendly robins in the Wildwoods 🙂

This stunning crocus display was all planted last October during the Half Term Holidays. Mylie and Zach were two of the many who helped to create this wonderful spectacle.

Camellia, Hellebore, Magnolia and Azalea are big colourful blooms in the woodland!

Blossoms are everywhere, bringing out the first bumblebees of year.

There’s so much glorious ground-cover around the gardens!

Life is bringing colour back to the bare wooded areas. The birds are loving it!

And don’t forget the daffodils!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Express Yourself

Singing Robin

Weekly Photo Challenge: Express Yourself

The European Robin is one of the few birds in the UK to sing all year round. This is one of the many reasons why I am especially fond of them. In the midst of winter their song takes on a brighter, more urgent tone. I’ve always thought of this as them singing for Spring! In many ways they are doing just that. While reaffirming their territories they are also singing to attract a mate. Robins are such expressive little birds and this is my favourite time of year to watch and listen to them. I’ve adapted a traditional nursery rhyme that some of you may know, Sing a Song of Sixpence, to express my joy at hearing the robin sing 🙂

Sing A Song Of Springtime

Sing a song of Springtime
From your perch on high
Four and twenty robins
Are calling to the sky

And when the sky has brightened
The other birds will sing
And there will be a chorus
That dawn will surely bring

Weekly Photo Challenge: Signs

Welcome to Wisley

Weekly Photo Challenge: Signs

The robins of RHS Wisley Gardens like to play tour guide! With a warm welcome at the entrance they will sing your way around the gardens, highlighting some of their favourite plants and features by perching on the adjacent signs. Here’s a gallery of some of their best moments:

I got this robin free with a cappuccino at RHS Wisley Gardens last year!

This weekend is the annual RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch. I’ll be at Wisley with Simon, my friend Nikki and her children, so after we’ve delighted in the butterflies we’ll be having a few cuppa’s and counting the birds 🙂
